History of the Series

The mission statement of the Grimsby Author Series is to foster literacy in the community and to promote and celebrate Canadian authors and Canadian literature.  The author series is a special project of the Grimsby Library Board.  All money raised by the Grimsby Author Series goes to support enhanced programming and facilities at the beautiful, new Grimsby Library/Art Gallery.

The Series was originally known as The Pumphouse Author Series because for the first two seasons the readings were held at the old, renovated Grimsby Pumphouse on the shores of Lake Ontario.  Ticket demand made it necessary to find a larger venue.  The Series moved to the 140-seat theatre-auditorium at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, 145 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby for three seasons.  We now have another bigger and more gracious home, the Casablanca Winery Inn.

What’s an evening like at the Grimsby Author Series?

Each evening begins at 7:00 pm with a sampling of wines provided by the distinguished, award-winning Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery.  At 7:30 pm introductions begin.  Most evenings feature two authors with each author reading about twenty minutes and then engaging in a question-and-answer period with the audience.  Each evening concludes with a book give-away and a book signing by the authors outside the theatre.  For less than the cost of a movie and popcorn audiences have come to enjoy the intimacy, enthusiasm and excitement of having a close-up experience with some of Canada’s most recognized, award-winning authors.  Several new, emerging authors have also been featured over the past five seasons with author Paul Cavanagh, After Helen, giving his first Canadian reading at the Grimsby Author Series.

Author response for the Series and its goals has been overwhelming:

Walt Whitman wrote, “to have great poets, there must be great audiences”. The Grimsby Author Series invites you to be part of our great audience to celebrate our great literature!
